About

Kia ora, my name is Susan, and I am a mother of 3, grandmother of 3 and wife of a farmer in Taranaki. My study of counselling came after watching friends and family struggle through their own mental health issues. My own story comes from a place of grief and then undiagnosed post-natal depression. The darkness that I felt then scared me and showed the truth of how some people can live everyday of their lives. My aim is to help people so they can see that life is worth living and a place we can all thrive to our own capabilities.

My Passion

This was earlier on in my life, but the desire to help others lingered until I was ready to begin to change my thoughts, feelings and way of life. I began with some inner healing and learning how to manage my own mental health and after working with others with their healing I decided to venture into Counselling. The study was difficult and such a learning and growing adventure. It was through Covid and we did a lot of our study and practice online, but that makes me able to work in that environment comfortably. Being from a rural area, I have an insight into how small towns and the farming world happens, this can make it easier for our rural people to be comfortable that I know what the struggles are and can understand.

My Goals

My goals are to keep you safe and cared for during our time together. I am to work in an environment that honours Te Tiriti te Waitangi, where we work in partnership to enhance your life. I want to help you see that you have the answers and the abilities to make change for good, even if it takes time, little steps forward are always the goal. I also aim to keep training and get a lot more knowledge in the areas that I think will help my clients.
